  • AME church changed my life

I was 11 and it was the summer that my parents separated. My mother got a U-Haul and moved to CA for the summer, while my brother and I stayed in KS to live with our paternal grandparents. Our father took us from there to live with him and on Sundays I went to church with my grandmother. I was active in the AME church doing all the young people activities and she suggested that I join the church.

To join the church you have to go down the front at the end of the service and announce to the pastor that you want to join. So when it was time for to do so, I got up went down the stairs with a warm feeling inside. When I met the pastor he asked me what I wanted to do and I told him "I actually want to give my life to Christ." All of a sudden my heart was changed. I no longer hated my brother, who I had a very violent past with- we would throw bricks and hot irons at each other, but when I uttered those words to my pastor I was filled with nothing but love for him and everyone. I felt lighter, like weights were lifted off of me. I forgave my parents and became obedient, even when it was hard. I studied harder for school and changed my friends. I stopped listening to R&B music and would only listen to Gospel music. I prayed 4 times a day and read my Bible faithfully twice a day. I was a new person.

Now it is nearly 20 years later and I love Him more than I did the first day I met Him. I made a lot of mistakes and did some things wrong, but He has forgiven me. "I pressed delete" and I am moving forward in Him. Thank You Lord!!!
