  • LDS church helped me find God

I had a very difficult childhood. I grew up in a broken home with an alcoholic father who was not around much and with little money and outside support. My mother worked very hard to take care of us and never asked for help from welfare. I had very little direction though because my mom had to work so much. By the age of 15 I had a baby and had to finish school quickly so I could help support my family. I was in and out of being a teen, partying some nights too late or fighting with my mother over stupid things. I didn't know why I was so lost and so angry.

One day when I was about 20 years old, I went to visit a friend. I drank the weekend away and felt extremely depressed. On my way home from my friends house, I met a guy. He took me in and loved my son and introduced me to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Before that time, I was very against the church, I was pretty much against all forms of organized religion, however something about the feelings I felt when I went with him to church really impacted me. After attending for several months, I decided to get baptized. Since having God in my life, I have changed so much. I no longer drink or smoke which not only has helped my health but I no longer am in situations that could hurt anyone else or put me in circumstances that would make life even harder.

I am so grateful for the knowledge that I have now and so grateful to have God in my life. My son's life is so blessed because of this decision to accept God. We have a beautiful family and a stable household. The fears of alcohol destroying my family, do not exist. Now the LDS church may not be for you but I strongly believe that having God in your life and the support of others who believe in him, can better your life and help you to change bad situations into good ones and lead you on a path of righteousness. During my conversion I faced a lot of adversity, but I stayed strong and faithful and persevered. Don't let anyone discourage you from finding God. That is your relationship with him. Your life may seem difficult and without direction but just know God is always here for you and will always be there for you. He is knocking at your door waiting for you to answer.
