  • Never give up on yourself

No matter how hard things are, don't give up. Keep trying!

I had a child when I was 18 and was "abandoned" by my family and the father of my son. I knew I had to step up and be the provider, a mother, a father, etc. There were two options: Keep doing what I was doing or do something and change things and make a better life for my son and I . I worked at a tanning salon at that time. I got a second job, got my own place, and went to nursing school full time. Every time I got down I reminded myself there were no other options. I didn't have time to make mistakes or try and figure out what I was suppossed to be doing. I didn't want to be another statistic. I wanted to be a proud and strong, young, single mother.

I am happy to say I finished nursing school while working two jobs, and taking care of my son. I graduated a year and a half ago and now have an awesome job at a University working with amazing doctors. It was hard. It was real hard. But the reality is that the world doesn't stop. You can't sit around and feel sorry for yourself. The reality was there were two choices. Do nothing or do better. I wanted to do better. I figured out what it took and even though it seemed near impossible, that was the only choice. I truly believe attitude is everything. Life is 90% your attitude and 10% what happens. If you are determined enough to do something, you can do it!!

Don't ever give up on yourself. If you don't believe in yourself, no one else will. Good luck to everyone!
