Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to be an actress. I LOVED to perform. I was constantly in some play or another. My parents and family and friends were always telling me that the odds were too much against me and I would end up wasting my life trying to get famous.
When I became an adult and couldn't be held back anymore, I went for it. I joined central casting which is where most televsion shows and movies hire background actors from. I got really lucky and landed a recuring background gig on this show called Deadwood. I was 19. For the first numerous episodes, I was just one of those blurs you see moving in the background. A moveable prop so to speak.
Right as we were going to start the 10th episode, the writer, David Milch, came up to me and asked about my experience. I told him I hadn't done anything special or had any professional training like some of the other girls on the show. One girl specifically always made me feel like I never stood a chance since SHE went to college to be an actress while I didn't.
Anyways, the writer then tells me he is going to pay for my acting lessons and give me a supporting role on the show! By the end of the third season, I was the main characters leading lady. That girl on the other hand, only got one line the entire series. It goes to show that in acting, you have it or you don't. College won't make you more successful if you aren't already a good actor to begin with. To this day she still has no credits and I have quite a few!
Don't ever let anyone tell you you can't make it and the odds are stacked against you. I am proof that you can do anything you put your mind and heart into.
