This is an inspirational story about the kindness of strangers. One night I was getting gasoline in my car at the gas station when i noticed a young female adult struggling at the pay phone with a duffle bag and a cast on her leg. She kept dropping the duffle bag (it appeared to be heavy) and she was having a hard time managing it while hobbling on one foot. I asked her if she needed some help, or could i give her a ride somewhere and she looked so grateful and replied, "oh yes, that would be great!"
So i helped her with her bag, and opened the passenger side door for her to get in. I put her bag in the drunk then got in the car. I asked her, "So, where to?" and she replied, "Oh, i dont know... anywhere i guess." I didn't quite understand where she wanted me to take her, but the way it sounded to me was, that she didn't have anywhere to go, so I asked her, "are you homeless?" and she said, "pretty much" she proceeded to tell me that she got into an argument with her boyfriend, and he kicked her out, that is also how she hurt her foot, fighting with him.
She was now in my vehicle, i wasnt going to just kick her out and i didnt want to just drop her off on the street somewhere, because she was obviously having a difficult time, so i told her.. "Well, you can come to my house if you want... you cant live there, but you can stay a couple nights until you figure out what you're going to do" She said thank you and i took her to my house, where she slept until noon the next day, she must've been exhausted! a couple days came to pass, and she didnt have anywhere to go...
to make a long story short,,, she ended up living with me for a year. She had no money and i supported her every need. Food, rides, she smoked my cigarettes, everything... she basically was just bumming off of me, but i didn't really mind, because i enjoyed her company, i didnt mind having her around. One day, she reached in her pocket and pulled out a bunch of change and gave it to me , she said, "here, i know it isnt much but i at least want to contribute when i can, so i thanked her, and i put that change in my gas tank cause i did give her alot of rides places. She then looked at me and said, "if ever i am in a position one day to pay you back for all the help you have given me, i certainly will" I appreciated the gesture, but this girl was broke.. i doubted that would ever happen, and didn't ever expect it to.
I eventually had to tell her to go because she wasnt making any attempt to find her own place, and i was beginning to not be able to afford her anymore, and so about a week later she left, and went to stay with a friend that lived with her father, but wasnt sure if the father was gonna be cool with it. Immediately after she left, i missed her. I was really lonely without her, because we spent alot of time together, but i didnt know where to find her, she had no phone, or no family or anything...
about 2 weeks later, my phone rang and it was her. I asked where she was and she said she was in my driveway and to come outside. I went outside and there she was in a brand new white nissan altima! I said, "where did you get this?" and she said, "I bought it" then she said, did you get the envelope i put under your door? and i said no, what envelope? she said, "go look" so i went to my door and there was an envelope she had slid under the door... I opened it up and there were 5 $100 bills in it! she said, "put that toward your rent, or any bills you may have this month" I said, "Where did you get all this money?" she said, "when i was 4 my dad was killed in an auto accident. there was a settlement, but i couldnt have access to it until i turned 21"
that means, when i picked her up that night... she knew even back then that she was coming into this money, but she didnt say a word about it. for a year i spent every dime on myself and she, and at times i was strugglin, but she kept it under wraps, she never said, "oh, dont worry, im gonna be coming into alot of money pretty soon and i will be able to take care of you when i get it... she just acted like she was poor and strugglin too...
If i was not kind to her and took her in, she wouldve never helped me out at a time when i really needed it. She had about $250,000 and i was shocked, because this was the brokest girl in the world! I was so happy to see her with a car and a phone and her own place, and i felt like i somewhat raised her, because she was just 19 turning 20 and i had a son that age,so she kinda felt like my kid.
We lost track of one another and i am desperatly trying to find her, i dont know what happened to her, her number is no longer in service and she moved. I am worried about her, but i believe she probably met a guy and started a life with him somewhere. she will always be close in my heart.
