How I save $100 a month or more.
A first step towards saving money is trying to save the first $100. I am a middle aged woman, I still work hard to make ends meet. I have a lot of bills and expenses to worry about just like everyone else. With each passing year, I watch the prices of many things inflate. Gas, rent, home payments, car payments, utilities and other items are increasing all the time. The great myriad of expenses that I and everyone else must deal with can sometimes be stressful, to say the least. Thankfully, I have found a few ways to save money each month and relieve some of the stress.
Like many other women and men, I have to make a drive to work. Usually, I swing into the local gas station and buy some coffee and a couple of snack items for my lunch break. Every morning I was spending five dollars at the gas station, which totals up to around twenty five dollars a week. These morning purchases were the first thing I tackled to start saving money. I resolved to make my own coffee at home and buy my snacks in bulk. Not only am I saving around fifteen dollars a week this way, I am also saving myself the hassle of stopping into the gas station in the mornings. This also helps to make up for the serious increase in fuel prices over the last couple of years. To save even more money on my eating habits, I started eating dinner at home and packing my lunch for work. Restaurants can drain a lot of money from your wallet if you eat out enough. Cutting back on my restaurant visits is saving me at least fifty dollars a month, if not more.
My utility bills are also items I am working on. I noticed within the last coupled years that my utilities bills are on the rise. I am not necessarily using more water or energy, but there have been rate hikes in many peoples' water and electric bills. To help with my electric bill, which is usually the worst of the two, I invested in some halogen light bulbs. These halogen lights are a great investment. They may cost you a little more up front than regular light bulbs, but they last longer and save you a significant amount of money over time. Also, I have began to wash my laundry in cold water more often. This will make your water heater last longer and will help save some more money on your electric bill. To help with my water bill I am doing simple things. For instance, I am taking shorter showers, washing only large loads of laundry and turning the water off while I brush my teeth. These measure are helping me save anywhere from twenty to thirty dollars a month on my utilities.
I hope my story will inspire other women like me to save money.
